St. Lawrence Gap is a stretch of road just over one kilometer long on the south coast of Barbados in the parish of Christ Church. It is famous for its fine restaurants and lively nightlife. Yellow Bird Hotel is located at the start of “The Gap” as it is affectionately called. This means that our guests can experience Barbados by simply stepping out of the hotel.
Snorkel on a reef, swim with the turtles or watch fishermen in St. Lawrence Bay directly in front of our hotel. You also have the choice of two beaches within walking distance – Worthing Beach (2 minutes walk away) where you can work on your tan or Dover Beach (8 minutes walk away) where you can kayak, windsurf or ride a jet ski at Dover Beach.
Dining options include anything from Indian & Thai to Brazilian or Chinese but the atmosphere and cocktails at the Mexican Restaurant Café Sol will leave you longing for more. You should also visit The Cove Nightclub or the Old Jamm Inn and dance the night away to a rhythmic combination of local, regional and international music.
Local vendors are sprinkled throughout the Gap selling art, craft, jewelry and even local food to satisfy your hunger pangs and modest budgets.
There is also a convenience store, internet café, shops and a major bus route all located only a stone’s throw away. And if you wake up on a Sunday morning and felt like attending a local church service, there’s an oceanfront church just around the corner!
The nearby Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary has a cute café which is a wonderful spot for breakfast, lunch or a snack in a most amazing setting! On entering the brightly colored traditional Barbadian chattel house you are immediately greeted by the scent of freshly brewed coffee! Choose from a selection of gourmet coffees, or if it’s a warm day pick a cooling frescante or iced tea.
And let’s not forget the Oistins Bay Gardens, located just 5 mins drive away. On Friday night particularly, the food is the main draw – excellent fish, (tuna, swordfish, marlin, mahi-mahi, flying fish), lobster, chicken etc served in an extremely informal setting. You can get your fish grilled or fried depending on which vendor you choose from. It’s all cooked on the spot in front of you.
In addition to this vibrant and diverse atmosphere, our hotel enjoys an enviable location of facing the St. Lawrence Bay and Boardwalk, where the sun sets beautifully every evening. The view from every room is stunning and cannot be surpassed!
